What does the NCAPP scholarship cover?
NCAPP will award each district one (1) scholarship to cover program expenses for (1) one teacher in either AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Literature and Composition, or AP U.S. History ($895 value). Districts are responsible for teacher/subject choice. Districts who want additional teachers to be enrolled may do so, but they will be responsible for those additional costs (for more information see http://www.collegeboard.org/apmentoring).
How does our scholarship recipient register?
Districts should complete the registration form found at https://bit.ly/2OofQlx to register their teacher for the program. Upon receipt of the teacher’s information, AP Mentoring will email the teacher directly to have them complete their profile information and match them with a mentor. We encourage districts to register teachers no later than Aug. 20, 2018 to ensure that teachers are matched with mentors in a timely fashion and can begin their first mentoring session in August 2018. The teacher you registered will be contacted at the summer email address provided. Please send any questions or concerns to Kathleen Koch, NCAPP Director, kkoch@collegeboard.org .

How does AP Mentoring work?
- The program runs from August 2018 through July 2019.
- Each mentee teacher collaborates with a group of up to three other mentees and one mentor. The groups meet online monthly, completing a total of 10 sessions over the course of the school year, with short assignments between sessions.
- Sessions will take place through a video chat program provided by AP. A mentoring platform will allow mentoring groups to share documents and schedule sessions.
- Mentees work with their mentors to identify areas of focus. Support may include practice in:
- Designing instructional experiences that help students attain the rigorous expectations of AP
- Understanding challenging content and skills in AP Computer Science Principles, English Literature and Composition, and AP U.S. History
- Applying best practices in teaching and learningo Identifying resources to support content and instruction
- Persisting through challenges
- Collaborating with mentors and other mentees on lesson plans and strategies
What are the benefits to teachers?
- Research has shown that recurring forms of professional support aligned with teacher needs and student work, such as mentoring, are highly effective in supporting teachers' practice.
- Mentees are active participants. They work with their mentors to analyze their own teaching practice, monitor student performance, and modify instructional practice.
- Online mentoring provides teachers located anywhere in the country — including rural areas — with personalized feedback throughout the school year that can be immediately applied in the classroom.
- For full participation in AP Mentoring (at least 9 out of 10 sessions plus completion of reflection assignments), teachers will receive a certificate indicating that they have earned 2.0 continuing education units.
